Description:
This
approximately 93,000 square foot, two story facility is being constructed in Amherst, New York to
service the suburbs north of the city of Buffalo.
The facility contains a 21,000 square foot gymnasium with an elevated running
track and a 13,000 square foot natatorium. The first floor serves as the men's
and women's locker rooms as well as administrative offices and physical
therapy. The second floor is broken up into aerobics and wellness spaces.
The gymnasium and natatorium are
constructed with long span roof joists bearing on reinforced masonry walls. The
remainder of the structure is steel framed with steel moment frames for lateral
load resistance.

Engineer's Role:
Complete
structural engineering design for the facility including:
- Long span roof
joists and reinforced masonry bearing and shear walls for the gymnasium
and natatorium.
- Structural steel
framing and steel moment frames for the remainder of the structure
- Spread footings to
support the structure
