Erie Canal Habor Naval Museum & Superyard
Buffalo, New York
Project
Description:
The project is part of the initial
Erie Canal Harbor Masterplan, a waterfront development sited at the end of Main
Street and the western termination of the historic Erie Canal. The 11,100
square foot Naval Museum and 2,800 square foot Superyard building are
constructed adjacent to the commercial slip on the former Coit-McCutcheon
block.
The Naval Museum is a two story, slab on
grade, steel framed structure which utilizes a combination of steel moment and
concentrically braced frames for its lateral resisting system. Due to the poor
soil conditions on the site, the building is supported on concrete pile caps
and steel piles driven to bedrock.
The Superyard building is a single
story, slab on grade pre-engineered metal building. Although the soil
conditions on the site are poor, the structure is supported on spread footings
due to the relatively light column loads.
