Description:
This
approximately 35,000 square foot, two story facility is being constructed in Hornell, New York.
The facility contains a 8,700 square foot pre-engineered metal building gymnasium
and a 4,500 square foot natatorium. The first floor serves as the men's and
women's locker rooms as well as administrative offices, community room and
daycare. The second floor is occupied by aerobics, a wellness
area with a running track and music and arts studios.
The natatorium is constructed with
long span roof joists bearing on reinforced masonry walls. The gymnasium and
second floor wellness area is a pre-engineered metal building with the remainder
of the structure being steel framed with steel moment frames for lateral load
resistance.

Engineer's Role:
Complete
structural engineering design for the facility including:
- Long span roof joists
and reinforced masonry bearing and shear walls for the natatorium.
- Structural steel
framing and steel moment frames for the remainder of the structure except
for the gymnasium and second floor wellness center.
- Spread footings to
support the structure including foundations for the pre-engineered metal
building.
